Training and Development

OCN Eastern Region provides a number of training courses for Internal Verifiers and Tutor Assessors, leading to formal awards. Training courses are offered throughout the year at the following locations across the region: Colchester, Newmarket, London and Norwich. Courses are also available in-house and can be adapted to suit your specific requirements.

OCN Eastern Region also provides training in the processes for the registration of learners and claiming for the award of credit. Training courses are offered throughout the year and separate courses are run for centres running the Access to HE Diploma and offender learning.

Training for Tutor/Assessors
In January 2010, following the introduction of the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) and the Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS), OCN Eastern Region will withdraw the NOCN Tutor Assessor Award.

Training for Internal Verifiers
The following training courses are intended for Internal Verifiers wishing to achieve a formal award or who require training as part of the OCN Eastern Region Centre Recognition process.

Training routes available, depending on qualifications and experience, are:

• NOCN Internal Verifier Award
• NOCN Internal Verification of Credit Based Learning: CPD for Practitioners

Assessor training for qualified Tutors
For experienced Tutors, OCN Eastern Region intends to introduce the accredited course Principles and Practice in Assessment. This will be a level 3, three credit unit which will be delivered over three days.

Tutors will need to have gained the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) or equivalent qualification to gain entry onto this course.

Professional Development Modules - New for 2009-10

OCN Eastern Region’s professional development modules have been developed to address the outcomes of the centre quality monitoring programme. The modules are aimed at both experienced and inexperienced practitioners involved in the delivery and quality assurance of credit-based learning.

The modules provide practical bite sized chunks of learning that fit around the requirements of the workplace. All courses are 3 hours long and there is no formal assessment. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance for CPD purposes.

• Understanding Accreditation and credit-based learning for Schools
• Principles of Assessment
• Standardisation of assessment
• Writing assessment activities for credit-based learning
• Understanding Internal Verification

The following training courses are intended for Exams and Administration staff who require training in the OCN administration processes for the registration of learners and claiming for the award of credit.
