Amendment to Entry Level Certificates in Adult Literacy & Adult Numeracy

Posted on 19 January 2010

The following amendment has been agreed by QCDA:

Removing the requirement for external assessment in the existing assessment model in both Literacy and Numeracy E3 qualifications

Introducing a summative assessment for numeracy which is delivered on-screen and a summative literacy assessment which will be available in paper based format as an alternative to unit achievement.

Details of the routes to achieving the qualifications at Entry 3 are now as follows:

Route 1
For each Entry 3 qualification, all units remain as mandatory, with the full qualification awarded when all units have been successfully achieved. The internal assessment tasks for each unit are retained but the external summative assessment tasks have been removed, as achievement of the units and internal assessments provide evidence that the required standards have been reached. This route enables the continuation of spiky profile achievement in literacy.

Route 2
Each qualification will be awarded upon successful achievement of a new and improved external summative assessment that assesses the national standards for adult literacy or numeracy as appropriate. The numeracy assessment will be delivered completely on-screen, but will also be available in paper based format. The literacy assessment will be delivered in paper based format.

Please note that there is no change to the Entry Level Certificate in Adult Literacy and Entry Level Certificate in Adult Numeracy qualifications at Entry 1 and Entry 2.
