Adult Learners' Week 2011 - OCN Eastern Region sponsored award

Tony wasn’t encouraged to do academic work as a child, resulting in him leaving school with no formal qualifications. When he reached his late 30s, he took the decision to gain an education, beginning with an Access to Higher Education course at West Suffolk College. Tony discovered he had a real love of learning; after the Access course he completed a degree in English and History.

He then undertook a work placement at West Suffolk College, which led to full-time paid work, supporting young people faced with barriers to education. Tony was able to empathise with the students as well as to inspire them with his adult learning journey. To support this role, Tony completed a qualification in preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector.

Tony continues to learn and is currently completing the next-level teaching certificate:

I can say unreservedly, that education is a lifelong commitment, and I aim to help educate and socialise students to the best of my ability, as well as enthuse my children with the fun and benefits of studying.
